Ladies and Gentlemen, meet "Blythe," a flexible, young newcomer who made the scene at 7th and Montana this morning intent on bending herself into a pretzel. At first I thought she was in pain. "Quick," I said, "Someone get her a Pumpkin Spice Latte!" But then I realized there was a good chance she already had one. Her head was between her knees and it sounded like she was panting. Just when I was ready to dial 911, she straightened up and went back about her business as if nothing was wrong. Some say she was doing Yoga, but I think that's a stretch ...!
You're killing me with thoughts of that latte, Marty! Try this instead. (Admittedly, it's got some color, too -- but your coffee klatch should appreciate the contraband. Pumpkin spice flavor is too good to abandon!)

1 2/3 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c oil (Canola, etc.)
2 eggs
1 c canned pumpkin
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease and flour loaf pan or pans (depending on size). Sift flour with baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices. In medium bowl beat sugar with oil until smooth; beat in eggs one at a time until smooth. Stir in pumpkin and flour mixture until well combined. Bake 60-65 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on rack 10 minutes, turn out of pan.
Starbucks is a strange place to stretch or retch but you see a little of everything there.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a strange ritual, but then again, consider the location.
