MEGURO GAJOEN

My meetings this week are being held in the Meguro Gajoen, a cultural landmark in Tokyo that was originally built as a community space and more recently transformed into a Spare-No-Expense venue for private meetings and weddings.  The location is a study in contrasts:  A sleek, modern skyscraper filled with centuries-old works of art, indoor and outdoor koi ponds, exotic gardens, and a man-made waterfall.  It's the perfect location for a celebration, which seems appropriate given that the purpose of my meetings here is to help plan the future of Blu-ray Disc, one of two home entertainment technologies engaged in a fierce battle to become the high-definition successor to DVD.  Just yesterday, elsewhere in Tokyo, the competing format, HD DVD, admitted defeat and will likely start to disappear from store shelves by the end of next month.

I know this all has to involve lots of jet lag & major work, but looks glam from this side of the screen.  Hell, I'm in New Jersey opening a can of tuna for the kitten, so.. :-) ~Mary

What an illustriously resplendent use of spatial purpose through design! (confidencially, I'm with Mary on this one though...A little to "Art-cy Fart-cy for this girl-y next door)...I do however, enjoy the koi. Their very presence seems such a contrast to their surrounding environment in this venue....Thank you for letting us follow you all over the globe on your travels Marty. I can immagine that your time spent here, koi & all, will be one for the memory banks!!!.Much Love your way...Kit

Marty, does'nt the way the Japanese mix their culture and history with the new give you a little tingle? I have heard on good authority that the HD,DVD, is superior to Blu-ray Disc. I have seen both but to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference.

I too never noticed a difference between the two.  I quite frankly thought it was ridiculous to go off in two different directions with it and now consumer's will suffer.  At least those that put their money in HD DVD and not Blu-ray.  Those who put their money into Blu can now stand high above on their pedestal and laugh at those who wasted their money.  I, on the other hand, have neither.  I figured I'd wait and let the idiots fight it out and when a winner was declared, I would not be short a hefty penny. ;)
