DA SORDID DE SOTO AT 7TH AND MONTANA ...!

Heads were turning at 7th and Montana this morning at the arrival of a vintage De Soto Station Wagon in our midst.  "I didn't even know De Soto made a station wagon," said Howard as the classy chassis rolled by.  As it happens, De Soto briefly introduced a Station Wagon in 1957 as part of its flagship Fireflite brand.  In an advertising campaign that no doubt offended Native Americans everywhere, De Soto proclaimed:  "There's heap plenty room in a new De Soto Wagon ... Room for a tribe or tepee!  And look how much more De Soto gives you for your Wampum!"  An illustration at the bottom of the ad shows a father shoving a Grandmother, a dog and two kids dressed like "Indians" into the car's rear-facing "Vista Seat."  No wonder De Soto went out of business by 1960 ...!

That was way before PC became popular ... I remember those vista seats!  My aunt had a station wagon and you could sit and look out the back window.  It wasn't a DeSoto though :)

I remember my grandparents having a station wagon, not sure what kind.  But I loved it because it gave enough room where we could either sit or lay down and look out the back window and dream away as we traveled.  That was one of my earliest and fondest memories of time spent with my grandfather, in that green station wagon, lol.  He'd take us all to a A&W root beer stand for a special treat, which just never happened unless grandpa was there with us.  Taking five young children anywhere ought to get anyone a prize in my book, but we were mostly well behaved (at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it, lol).

I love old vintage cars! I mostly love the muscle cars. I had a sweet cherry red 1967 mercury cougar. That car was so awesome! It had I think a 402 something or another engine hehehe I just know that baby was fast! Got me a couple speeding tickets. I was young and in love, with my car. I had personalized plates that read badcat. I ended up giving the car to my Dad and then he gave it to my brother a few years after that. It has since been sold or I would be driving it today. My Dad currently owns a mint condition all original 1942 ford coupe. This is a very rare car as it was during war time and metal was precious so they did not manufacture cars except for the generals. I believe just a few years ago I read somewhere that there were only 12 known vehicles still in existance and my Dad had 2 of them. He sold one of them and would ultimately like to sell the other one as he is now 71 and can no longer enjoy the car as he once did. Thanks for the pic of the De Soto..smiles...
